Spanish autónomo taxes, explained

How much tax do digital nomads pay in Spain?

A digital nomad on the Spanish DNV is taxed as any tax resident: progressive IRPF income tax (19%–47%) on net earnings, plus the monthly autónomo social-security fee when invoicing as a freelancer. The real burden usually lands between 25% and 40% of gross income depending on revenue, deductible expenses and region. Those who qualify can opt into the Beckham Law and pay a flat 24% for 6 years.

How the calculator works

You enter what you invoice, your business expenses and your family situation. The calculator applies the 2026 IRPF brackets, personal and family allowances, the new social-security brackets, and the €80/month flat rate if you're a first-time autónomo. You get what you keep per year, the quarterly IRPF payment and your monthly fee.

Beckham Law vs autónomo — which is better?

The Beckham Law lets new arrivals pay a flat 24% on income up to €600,000 for 6 years. The required link doesn't have to be a Spanish company — it can also be a foreign one (typical for digital nomads on a foreign payroll, or autónomos invoicing mainly a single client). Pure freelancers with multiple clients usually don't qualify; for newly-arrived employees it's often more efficient than the general regime.

Tarifa plana for new autónomos in 2026

If you register as an autónomo for the first time (or haven't been one in the last 2 years), you pay €80/month for the first 12 months, extendable by another 12 if your net earnings stay below the minimum wage. After that, you switch to the income-based contribution system.

Modelo 130 (IRPF) is filed in April, July, October and January. VAT (modelo 303) follows the same quarterly calendar.

Yes: software, accountant fees, professional supplies, training and materials are 100% deductible. A home office allows a proportional deduction of utilities if registered with the tax authority.

It's an estimate within ±3%. It doesn't replace an advisor's calculation: your real case depends on region, invoice withholdings and specific deductions.
